Anarchic Action Is Not Student DNA
JAKARTA – Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto emphasized that student demonstrations are a peaceful movement as a guardian of the government, where anarchism is not a student’s DNA.
“The student demonstration is a peaceful movement to guard the running of the government. Anarki is not a student’s DNA. Therefore, the academic space must be protected from repressive actions or infiltration by outside parties,” said the Minister of Education and Technology as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 1.
Minister Brian emphasized that his party is also trying to keep campuses safe. The Ministry of Education and Technology is committed to ensuring that campuses remain an academic space free from repressive actions, by prioritizing dialogue and persuasive steps.
He also said that his party would immediately prepare a complaint channel quickly if a similar incident happened again.
“Providing a fast complaint channel to ensure that every problem on campus can be handled immediately, while maintaining the function of the campus as a center for education and academic freedom,” he said.
Therefore, the Minister of Education and Technology ensured that his party would send a team to coordinate directly with university leaders to assess the impact experienced by students, staff, and facilities.
“If anyone is affected, the Ministry of Education and Technology is ready to provide medical and psychological assistance, as well as ensure that there are coordination protocols with security forces so that the campus is protected,” he said.
If the action continues, Brian invites all students to close ranks peacefully, maintain the dignity of the student movement so that it is not used by parties who want to damage this country.
“I also invite university leaders throughout Indonesia to open spaces for dialogue, listen to student aspirations directly, and make campuses the best example in caring for healthy and dignified democracy, by always prioritizing dialogue and persuasive steps,” said Brian Yuliarto.
Previously, the Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) said the riots that occurred on Jalan Tamansari, Bandung City, Monday (1/9) night, were infiltrated by an unknown crowd after student demonstrations ended at the West Java DPRD building.
The Chancellor of Unisba Harits Nu’man ensured that the riots were not carried out by students, but by an unknown group that sparked chaos on Jalan Tamansari.
“The action is not like students. We interpret the shooting to reduce the crowd. It’s a public area, not a campus area,” he said.
