Lagos lawmaker distributes sewing machines, computers to boost entrepreneurship, education
A federal lawmaker representing Lagos Island II Federal Constituency, Kayode Akiolu, has distributed essential tools, including deep freezers, sewing machines, and computers, to his constituents.
This initiative, aimed at empowering women, youths, and schools, forms part of Akiolu’s wider effort to promote local entrepreneurship and bridge the digital divide in education.
The empowerment programme, facilitated by Akiolu in collaboration with the National Cereal Research Institute, Badeggi, and the National Productivity Centre, seeks to support small business owners, entrepreneurs, women, and youths in Lagos Island II Federal Constituency.
In a statement released on Thursday by his office, it was highlighted that this initiative aligns with Akiolu’s legislative agenda, which focuses on improving the lives of women, children, and youths in the constituency.
The statement read, “Women, children, and youth are at the core of my legislative agenda, hence this intervention is aimed at improving the sustainability of small businesses, creating a conducive learning environment in schools, and supporting our people.”
“In line with his agenda to equip schools in the constituency with appropriate learning tools, computer sets were distributed to selected schools to equip pupils with the skills and learning environment required for the emerging knowledge economy.”
The empowerment programme, held on Sunday, 8th September 2021, at the Onikan Youth Centre, Lagos, was attended by traditional leaders, prominent party figures, women and youth groups, school administrators, and students.
Akiolu expressed gratitude to the two federal agencies for their collaboration, which the statement described as impactful.
“The good people of Lagos Island Federal Constituency II appreciate this partnership aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of women, youths, and improving access to knowledge in schools within our constituency.
“This initiative is part of broader constituency interventions to support small businesses and improve the living standards of beneficiaries.”
The event witnessed the distribution of key items, including computers, deep freezers, sewing machines, and grinding machines, to beneficiaries. Schools in the constituency also received computer sets to enhance educational resources.
Akiolu reaffirmed his commitment to quality representation, urging beneficiaries to utilise the initiative as a step towards economic independence and community growth.
He emphasised the vital role of entrepreneurship and education in fostering progress, underscoring the significance of providing computers to schools in bridging the digital divide and improving students’ access to technology.
The event brought together community leaders and residents to celebrate this development milestone.
